All educational institutions on the territory of Pomorie municipality participate in the promotional and demonstration initiatives

All educational institutions on the territory of the Pomorie municipality participate in the promotional and demonstration initiatives in support of the recycling and reuse of waste, implemented within the framework of Activity 5, under the project "The next generations in the Pomorie municipality - more responsible in the use of resources and involved in the transformation to a circular economy through educational, informative and promotional-demonstration measures", Contract No. BGENVIRONMENT-3.001.0012-C01 / 25.07.2022, financed under the Program "Environmental Protection and Climate Change", FM of the EEA 2014-2021 .
The project is implemented by "Hristo Botev" Primary School, Bata village, in partnership with: International Development Norway AS, "St. Paisii Hilendarski" Primary School, Kableshkovo town and "Srebarno Zvanche" Kindergarten, Stratsin village.
The amount of the BFP is BGN 387,279.31.
The main goal of the project is the development and implementation of various educational campaigns to raise awareness regarding resource management, waste recycling and the circular economy among diverse educational institutions in the municipality of Pomorie (including 12 schools and 7 kindergartens) and among the general public.
As part of the promotional and demonstration initiatives to support the recycling and reuse of waste, the following activities were carried out:
• A total of 114 containers, 6 different types of containers for separate collection of waste, were placed in each of the 19 educational institutions in total. Pomorie, including 12 schools and 7 kindergartens. The container set includes: 1 battery container, 1 plastic and metal container, 1 paper and cardboard container, 1 glass container, 1 composter and 1 set of 4. combined bins for separate collection of packages;
• In the period April 10-17, 2024, 2 student promotional-demonstration excursions were held, for a total of 80 students, to acquire practical knowledge about recycling, waste reuse and the circular economy, incl. 1 excursion for 40 students from "Hristo Botev" Elementary School, Bata village and 1 excursion for 40 students from "St. P. Hilendarski", town of Kableshkovo.
The excursions include a visit to the ECOMAX base, Shumen. The company specializes in waste management, including recyclable waste management - trade and treatment of secondary raw materials, and environmental engineering.
The second object visited is the Anaerobic installation for the processing of separately collected biodegradable waste, opened in November 2023 in the city of Burgas, which serves the municipalities of Burgas, Nessebar and Pomorie. The anaerobic installation in Burgas has one of the most modern devices and systems for the execution of waste processing processes, functioning on the principle of a natural process, in which the decomposition of waste is carried out by special bacteria in the complete absence of oxygen. Compost and methane are produced as a result of this process. Electric energy is obtained from the obtained biogas.
During the visits, students gain knowledge about the benefits of waste recycling by observing good practices implemented in production processes, including for recycling and reuse of waste in the context of the circular economy.
• On April 19, 2024, an eco-tournament was held at the stadium in the town of Kableshkovo with the participation of a total of 97 children and students from all educational institutions on the territory of the municipality of Pomorie. Children and students participated in various types of eco-competitions, divided into 3 categories, according to the age group of the participants: 5-7 years; 8-10 years and 11-14 years and in 8 categories, according to the type of waste in the 8 thematic areas:
- Plastics;
- Glass;
- Paper and cardboard;
- Textile;
- Metals and alloys;
- Unusable batteries and accumulators with an emphasis on batteries;
- Biodegradable waste (for composting);
- Circular economy in the context of enterprises (private sector).
The installed total of 114 containers for separate collection of different types of waste in the 19 educational institutions on the territory of the Pomorie municipality, held as part of the activity: an eco-tournament between the educational institutions and 2 promotional-demonstration excursions, created the necessary conditions for nurturing environmentally friendly behavior and encouraged teamwork and the transformation into a tradition of similar eco-oriented pilot events among children and youth from educational institutions in the region.
