A total of 48 educational campaigns were conducted among children and students from 6 educational institutions in the municipality of Pomorie

The educational campaigns were carried out within the framework of Activity 3: Development of programs and implementation of educational campaigns on them regarding the circular economy and recycling of waste in various educational institutions on the territory of the municipality of Pomorie, under the project "The next generations in the municipality of Pomorie - more responsible at the use of resources and involved in the transformation to a circular economy through educational, informative and promotional-demonstration measures", Contract No. BGENVIRONMENT-3.001.0012-C01 / 25.07.2022, financed under the Program "Environmental Protection and Climate Change", FM of the EEA 2014-2021.
The project is implemented by "Hristo Botev" Primary School, Bata village, in partnership with: International Development Norway AS, "St. Paisii Hilendarski" Primary School, Kableshkovo town and "Srebarno Zvanche" Kindergarten, Stratsin village.
The amount of the BFP is BGN 387,279.31.
The main goal of the project is the development and implementation of various educational campaigns to raise awareness regarding resource management, waste recycling and the circular economy among diverse educational institutions in the municipality of Pomorie (including 12 schools and 7 kindergartens) and among the general public.
During the implementation of the activity, for the purposes of the development of the programs, a preliminary study and assessment of the knowledge and skills regarding the circular economy and waste recycling of preschool children and students in primary and junior high school at the basic educational level in educational institutions of the territory of Pomorie municipality based on quantitative and qualitative analyses. Given the results of the above study, 16 different programs have been developed regarding the circular economy and waste recycling, of which 8 are aimed at students in primary and primary schools and 8 are aimed at children in pre-school education in kindergartens.
Thematically, the programs are differentiated into 8 directions regarding the circular economy and waste recycling, divided by type of recyclable waste and the specifics of its recycling:
1. Plastics;
2. Glass;
3. Paper and cardboard; 4.
Textiles;
5. Metals and alloys;
6. Unusable batteries and accumulators with an emphasis on batteries;
7. Biodegradable waste (for composting);
8. Circular economy in the context of enterprises (private sector).

For each of the 8 thematic directions, 2 different programs have been developed, tailored to the specifics of the age group, incl. 1 program each, applicable to children in pre-school age from 5 to 7 years and 1 program each, applicable to students in the primary and junior high school stages of the basic educational level aged 7 to 14 years.
To ensure the technical security of the educational campaigns, technical equipment was purchased within the project and 1 office was equipped in each of the 3 Bulgarian partner institutions: OU "Hristo Botev" - Bata village, OU "St. Paisiy Hilendarski" - town of Kableshkovo, Kindergarten "Silver Bell" - village of Stratsin.
A total of 23 teachers from educational institutions from the municipality Pomorie, including the formed 8-member team for conducting educational campaigns, including teachers from the 3 Bulgarian partner institutions.
A total of 48 educational campaigns were conducted under the developed programs regarding the circular economy and waste recycling. Children and students from the following 6 educational institutions in the municipality of Pomorie participated in the campaigns: "Hristo Botev" Primary School, Bata village, "St. "Hristo Botev", town of Pomorie, OU "Otets Paisiy", village of Stratsin, Kindergarten "Radost", town of Kableshkovo.
The 23 teachers trained have acquired long-lasting knowledge and skills about the circular economy and waste recycling, which they will pass on to their students in the future.
Children in kindergartens and students in schools in the municipality of Pomorie who have gone through the educational campaigns have acquired knowledge and skills in each of the eight thematic areas regarding the circular economy and waste recycling, which they will be able to practically apply in the direction of protecting the environment and preventing negative climate change.
The sustainability of the results of the project, and in particular of activity 3, consists mainly in the developed 16 different programs in the 8 thematic directions regarding the circular economy and waste recycling, which can be used to define effective measures and develop local and regional educational policies regarding the circular economy and waste recycling.
The activities carried out will have a long-term effect in the direction of limiting the degree of pollution with waste. This is particularly important for the region, given the need to preserve the natural environment of the protected species - inhabitants of Lake Pomorie, the attractiveness of the municipality as a tourist destination and the development of its structurally defining economic branch - tourism.
